Landlord and Tenant Disputes
The primary goal of the Landlord/Tenant program is to help people understand what their rights are in a landlord-tenant dispute - and to give them options for moving toward resolution.
A tenant or landlord who is confronted with a dispute often does not know how to clarify the questions involved. They will, many times, have wrong information. The landlord-tenant counselors know what questions to ask, what information is pertinent and the steps on needs to take to solve the problem.
Time is often a crucial factor when solving these problems. Our counselors strive to answer and return all calls on the day received.
In order to assist people in understanding and resolving a landlord-tenant dispute, we provide the following services to help individuals who cannot afford costly legal services:
• Help clarifying the questions involved in any landlord-tenant situation.
• Assist in providing basic legal information and referrals.
• Promote knowledge and awareness of the laws in the community.
• Assist in solving housing problems.
• Make referrals to agencies that provide legal and housing support.
Your best protection against landlord-tenant problems is knowledge! Educate yourself with "Know Your Rights: The Colorado Guide for Landlords & Tenants," produced in by CHSI in partnership with University of Denver Law professor Andrea Bloom.
Written by a lawyer for regular people, it addresses everything from deposits and leases to evictions and damages in plain and easy to understand language.
